GE 2.2MW turbines to feature at 74.8MW Roncevaux wind farm

Invenergy hires Quebec help

Invenergy has awarded a number of construction contracts to Quebec-based companies for its 74.8MW Roncevaux wind farm.

The developer has selected Quebec consortium Construction Energie Renouvelable (CER) as general contractor to build the Gaspé region scheme, Invenergy development director Frits de Kiewit told reNEWS.

Provincial manufacturer Marmen is supplying steel towers from a plant in Matane and LM Wind Power’s Gaspé factory is fabricating blades.

Roncevaux must meet a 60% Quebec content requirement law with at least a 35% spend in the Matane and Gaspésie-Iles-de-la-Madeleine regions.

The project, selected in Quebec’s fourth call for tenders, will feature 34 GE 2.2MW turbines. The US manufacturer is expected to start deliveries in late spring or early summer.

Crews completed tree clearing, built half the access roads and started foundation site preparation in late 2015. Foundation work will pick up again after the spring thaw, followed by turbine erection in the summer and substation energisation in early October, said de Kiewit.

“We are absolutely on track for on-time COD, which is 1 December,” he said.

Invenergy owns the project in a 50/50 partnership with the East Wind Alliance, which includes the Maliseet First Nation of Viger, eight regional municipal counties in the Lower St Lawrence region and six RMCs in the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine area.

Roncevaux is located near Invenergy’s Plateau wind project, about 310 miles east of Quebec City. It will connect to an existing 315kV Hydro-Québec line through a new 34.5kV/315kV substation.
