Siemens has struck a deal with the Moroccan Government to build a €100m blade factory in Tangier.
The project will create up to 700 jobs in the country and will make rotor blades for onshore wind turbines.
Construction of the facility will begin shortly and is expected to take a year with first operations slated for next spring.
Siemens Wind Power and Renewables chief executive Markus Tacke said: “We invest where we see strong business opportunities. Morocco is the perfect location from which to serve the growing onshore wind power markets in Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
“The economy is strong, the political climate is stable, and Morocco has a young, skilled and motivated workforce. These factors make Tangier the ideal site for this new state-of-the-art factory.”
The planned 37,500 square metre facility will will be located in Tanger Automotive City, some 35km from Tanger Med port. It will handle the export of blades to various locations in Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
