Allied Exploration & Geotechnics has won a contract to carry out geological investigations at Banks Renewables’ 15MW Moor House wind farm.
The Chester Le Street company has been appointed in conjunction with Capita to carry out the site investigation work, which will start on 14 March. It is expected to take around four to six weeks to complete.
Works will involve using small drilling rigs and an excavator to establish the ground conditions at the site in preparation for the eventual start of construction, which is expected to begin by the end of the year.
The Durham developer was granted planning permission by Darlington Borough Council for the six-turbine Moor House project at the end of 2011.
Banks has been working to addressing technical issues and planning conditions associated with the scheme.
The around 15MW Moor House scheme, which will be sited on land to the north east of Barmpton, will involve a £17.5m investment by Banks Renewables. The wind farm was awarded a CfD worth £82.50/MWh.
