Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power has acquired the 120MW East Pecos solar facility in Texas.
The facility will be located on approximately 1000 acres in Pecos County and will consist of approximately 1.2m of First Solar’s modules mounted on single-axis tracking tables.
First Solar is building and will operate and maintain the facility.
Construction started in February and East Pecos is expected to reach commercial operation in the fourth quarter of the year.
The electricity and associated renewable energy credits generated by the facility will be sold under a 15-year power purchase agreement to Austin Energy.
Southern Company chairman, president and chief executive officer Thomas Fanning said: “Southern Power’s acquisition of East Pecos underscores the company’s commitment to strategically develop renewables across America.”
