Risk consultancy outfit 6 Alpha Associates has launched an explosive ordnance disposal division.
The investment comes amid increasing demand for the work, particularly from the offshore wind industry.
The company said infrastructure works have faced “escalating” risks from unexploded ordinance left behind after two World Wars, munitions dumping and military training.
As a result, 6 Alpha said it has now invested in specialist survey equipment and brought together a number of experts in the field to carry out explosive ordinance risk management and assessments.
6 Alpha managing director Simon Cooke said: “Over recent years, the construction industry has identified a distinct quality gap that exists between the strength of our threat and risk assessment consultancy work and the follow on contracting services.
“Poor on site services not only had the potential to compromise the operational safety of projects, but also cost our clients more money than we thought they needed to spend.”
He added: “Our investment in establishing an explosive ordnance disposal division, together with the series of strategic partnerships that we’ve already put in place, aims to combat bad practice and in doing so, raise industry standards and deliver better value for money.”
