Bharat Heavy Electricals has commissioned the first 40MW unit at the Teesta Low Dam Stage IV hydro project in West Bengal in India.
The project is a 4x40MW run-of-the-river facility located in Darjeeling district of West Bengal on the River Teesta.
Bharat said the other three units are in advanced stages of development, with the second unit expected to be commissioned shortly.
The order for the four 40MW units was placed by NHPC. Bharat is tasked with design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning.
The equipment is supplied by the company’s facilities at Bhopal, Jhansi, Rudrapur, Mumbai and Bengaluru and the work on site is being carried out by its power sector eastern region construction division.
Other NHPC projects currently under execution by Bharat are the 4x200MW Parbati Stage-II and the 3x110MW Kishanganga.
The company is also developing a 3x40MW Rammam Stage-III hydro project for NTPC in West Bengal.
