Fugro has posted a loss of €372.5m in full-year 2015, compared with €458.9m of red ink in 2014, as its main oil and gas business took a nosedive.
Revenue was €2.36bn, down from €2.57bn in 2014, while EBIT before exceptionals was €113m, up from €81m in 2014.
Fugro said as part of a search for new opportunities that low-carbon energy including offshore wind would be of increasing importance to the business going forward and result in increased investments.
It said the cost of offshore wind is “continually coming down” and that it is spreading globally to China, Japan and the US. It is also interested in other low-carbon energy including tidal, hydro and geothermal, among others.
Chief executive Paul van Riel said: “The year 2016 will be another challenging year for the oil and gas industry based on indications that the present over-supply conditions will continue.
“In our building, infrastructure and power markets we see good opportunities in several regions.”
