EMO Marine Technologies has been awarded a contract to provide monitoring equipment on the 4MW Cape Sharp Tidal project.
EMO has designed and developed a turnkey monitoring system for the turbine deployment and recovery platform.
The monitoring system converts multiple underwater video and sensor data streams into a single fibre-optic cable, which creates a real-time and high bandwidth link from the sub-sea platform to the ‘Scotia Tide’ deployment barge at the surface.
The EMO MUX system allows for constant monitoring and is intended to assist with both deployment and recovery scenarios at the project.
OpenHydro is partnering with Emera on the Cape Sharp project, which could grow to 16MW in 2017, 50 MW in 2019, with the final phase goal of generating up to 300MW in 2020.
