MHI Vestas has confirmed its selection as preferred turbine supplier for the 370MW Norther offshore wind farm in Belgium
The joint venture manufacturer will deliver V164-8MW machines (pictured) in line with a 2019 operational aspiration, as first reported exclusively in subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS.
MHI Vestas expects to finalise a contract in the first half of 2016.
Chief executive Jens Tommerup said: “MHI Vestas has a strong partnership with Eneco, who we have worked with to deliver the 129 MW Eneco Luchterduinen and 120 MW Princess Amalia projects in the Netherlands, while we look forward to building our relationship with Elicio N.V. going forwards.”
He said selection as preferred supplier “underlines the customers’ confidence in the V164-8MW”.
Norther will be built by Electrawinds/Elicio and Eneco and is scheduled to reach financial close in late 2016.
The project will be built around 22km off Zeebrugge and will help to meet Belgium’s 13% renewable energy target for 2020.
