Highland Council has objected to Muirhall Energy’s plans for a 78MW wind farm in the far north of Scotland.
Planning officials made the decision on the 20-turbine Caplich under delegated powers based largely on visual and wild land impacts.
Muirhall applied to build the wind farm near Lairg in Sutherland at the beginning of 2015. Hardware of up to 132 metres is in the frame.
A public inquiry is now likely before Scottish ministers make the final decision on Caplich under Section 36 powers.
Highland councillors will meanwhile debate the merits of SSE’s planned 16-turbine Gordonbush extension at next week’s meeting of the north planning applications committee.
Officials have recommended no objection to the Section 36 scheme pending the removal of one turbine and the reduction in height of a second.
