Offshore wind turbine outfit MHI Vestas is on course to hit 2GW in firm orders later this year.
Vestas said in its annual report this morning that the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries joint venture will add to the 1176MW already on the books.
The company’s pipeline includes a conditional offer at Dong Energy’s 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 in the German North Sea.
MHI Vestas is also the preferred supplier on Vattenfall’s 400MW Horns Rev 3 off the Danish coast.
Both projects are expected to feature the company’s V164-8.0MW flagship model.
“Based on these levels of order activity, the joint venture finds itself well positioned as one of the strongest players in the offshore market,” Vestas said.
“MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has been a very active participant in the market, and has generally had a presence in most tenders taking place since its formation.”
The turbine outfit confirmed that it had injected a further €200m in “milestone payments” into the joint venture due to its “satisfying operating performance”.
MHI Vestas added that 200 people have been hired and are in training at its Isle of Wight blade manufacturing facility off the English south coast.
The company has also ramped-up production at its leased nacelle assembly facility at Lindø in Denmark.
