Tata Power has commissioned two 60MW units at its 120MW Itezhi Tezhi hydropower project in Zambia.
Tata Power has a 50% stake in the project, with Zambian power utility Zesco owning the other 50%.
The project is situated on the Itezhi Tezhi dam and is a first-of-a-kind public private partnership.
The 50:50 JV is a 25-year BOOT – Build-Own-Operate-Transfer – concession term, with Zesco the sole off-taker of power from the power plant.
Tata Power chief executive officer and managing director Anil Sardana said: “We are delighted to announce the commissioning of the first unit of the Itezhi Tezhi hydro power project.
“It is a major milestone for us as this takes us a step forward to make our international footprints stronger.”
