Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO) is to support the development of two offshore wind farms in the country totalling 270MW.
NEDO, a public research and development management organisation, will provide some of the finance to help commercialise the two projects during business period fiscal 2015 to 2017.
One 170MW project, to be developed by Marubeni Corp, Obayashi Corp and Eco Power, will located near the port of Noshiro in Akita prefecture.
The other 100MW wind farm, to be developed by Green Power Investment Company, will be located near Ishikari Bay New Port in Hokkaido.
The money will help to assess the costs of building the projects – such as scutinising wind conditions and marine and environmental assessments – as well as business and operation and maintenance costs.
