ScottishPower Renewables has deployed a installed a foating lidar device at the site of the 714MW East Anglia 1 offshore wind farm in the UK.
The unit was put in place by Fugro using local vessel Suffolk Spirit. The company also supplied all the equipment, which will be used to test and validate wind, wave and climate data.
The project is part of the Carbon Trust offshore wind accelerator programme.
SPR project director Charlie Jordan said: “We are committed to driving down costs in all aspects of delivering an offshore windfarm and this trial project in East Anglia will play a key role in proving the advantages of the new technology.”
The trial will run for six months and data will be tested against readings from the existing meteorological mast to ensure accuracy.
