Lloyd’s Register has been retained by Energinet.dk to work on noise transmission for upcoming electrical infrastructure works on the Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm off Denmark.
The company will measure underwater sound propagation during development of the offshore substation and “provide a critical approach to how to control noise transmission at sea”.
Installation of a four-legged jacket foundation will begin later this year using piling.
“Experts from Lloyd’s Register’s leading risk integrity, compliance and specialist risk consulting services group will undertake a pre-construction investigation and determine the site specific underwater propagation,” said the company.
Lloyd’s Register technical lead Per Trojgard Andersen said: “It is essential that construction and operation of these wind farms respect the fragile marine environment. That is where we can apply our unique expertise in underwater noise.”
Energinet.dk will provide the Horns Rev 3 grid infrastructure out to and including the offshore substation. Vattenfall will build the offshore wind farm with turbines due to be connected starting in 2017.
