US developer NextEra Energy Resources has shelved plans to build a 185MW wind project in Ohio.
The Honey Creek scheme has been in development since 2011. Florida-based NextEra proposed to erect up to 115 1.6MW turbines on 14,000 acres in Seneca and Crawford counties in the northern part of the state.
“Honey Creek has proceeded through the very early stages of the application process, but has concluded that it will no longer go forward with this project,” said the proponent in a ‘request to withdraw’ application to the Ohio Power Siting Board.
The reasons for the decision were not disclosed.
Ohio’s governor in 2014 froze the state’s renewable energy portfolio standard at 2.5%. The RPS requires that 12.5% of electricity sold in the state be generated from renewable sources by 2027.
The two-year freeze expires at the end of 2016 unless the law is changed.
