GE has won a deal to supply 1GW of LV3 wind converters to Shanghai Electric for use on their offshore wind turbines.
GE will equip Shanghai Electric’s turbines with its latest 4MW fully fed LV3 wind converters as GE beefs up its renewables presence in the region.
The wind converters are purpose built for offshore wind farms because they use standardised LV3 power stacks which give higher power density enabling the converters to remain the same size but be used on larger sized turbines.
Shanghai Electric President Xiaolong Jin said: “We are impressed by the long and successful track record that GE maintains in the renewable sector. Their strong local presence, proven technology, and an in-depth industrial know-how of the renewable market and their large installed base of converters for offshore wind make them one of the most reliable partners to work with.”
GE sales leader Sofia Sauvageot said: “In a fast growing wind market like China, GE is proud to provide one of the biggest Chinese offshore operators with reliable solutions which will be made in China for China.”
China is expected to reach an installed wind power capacity of 200GW by the end of 2020, outpacing even the Chinese government’s own predictions.
The converters will be manufactured in GE’s Shanghai facility.
