The Quebec government, utility Hydro-Québec and the Innu Nation have unveiled plans to build a 200MW wind farm in the Canadian province.
The project will complete Quebec’s 4000MW goal of wind energy under the province’s 2006-2015 strategic plan, said energy, natural resources and northern plan minister Pierre Arcand.
“The coming weeks will be used to agree on different terms and commitments from both sides to achieve the realization of this 200MW wind project that will have a significant impact for the Innu Nation on the North Shore,” said Arcand.
The project location, industry partners and other details have yet to be revealed.
The wind farm is expected to bring investment of nearly half a billion dollars in addition to generating significant spinoff benefits for the community, said the Canadian Wind Energy Association.
Quebec has more than 3000MW of wind farms in operation and another 700MW due online in the next two years.
The wind industry employs 5,000 people in Quebec and the sector has generated investments of C$10bn in the last decade.
