Spanish companies Gamesa and Iberdrola Ingenieria have teamed up to build four wind farms in Costa Rica totalling 80MW.
The partners have signed an engineering, procurement and construction contract with Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy for the quartet of 20MW turnkey jobs.
Work scope will include the construction and commissioning phases required for the Alisios project, which includes wind farms at Vientos de la Perla and Vientos de Miramar, located in the Liberia region, and Altamira and Campos Azules, to be developed in the Tilaran region.
Gamesa will manufacture and supply 19 of its G90-2MW turbines and 21 of its G87-2MW turbines for delivery during the second quarter of 2016, while Iberdrola will handle the EPC side of project. Commissioning is due towards the end of 2016
Gamesa previously worked with Globeleq on the 126MW Cerro de Hula wind farm in Honduras (pictured). It is the leading supplier in Costa Rica with 143MW installed or under contract.
