Prysmian Group has tested its new 525kV extruded cable system for high-voltage direct current in line with CIGRE testing protocols.
The company said the cable technology will enable a large increase of the maximum transmission capacity of bi-pole systems up to more than 2.6GW.
This is more than double the value achieved with 320kV DC systems currently in service, Prysmian said.
Prysmian Group senior vice president energy projects Massimo Battaini said: “We are proud to be able to offer the most advanced technologies for power transmission, including our proprietary 600kV MI PPL insulation technology to our customers, namely Transmission System Operators.”
