Tidal company Atlantis is “on target” to deliver power to the grid in 2016 from its 6MW Meygen project off the north coast of Scotland.
The developer said today it has completed a “very successful construction campaign” in 2015 both onshore and off and that 2016 will be a “watershed year”.
Atlantis has completed horizontal directional drilling for the four turbine Phase 1A and has installed four offshore export cables.
Contractor ABB expects an onshore power distribution centre to be weather-tight by Christmas while SSE has installed 15km of onshore cables.
Four foundations are under construction at the Nigg yard in the Highlands while fabrication of ballast blocks is near completion by JGC.
The project’s three 1.5MW Andritz Hammerfest Hydro turbines are being assembled in Germany with a single Atlantis 1.5MW machine taking shape in Scotland.
Atlantis chief executive Tim Cornelius said: “This world leading project remains on track to execute its final offshore installation and commissioning program for Phase 1A in 2016.”
