A consortium of Spanish companies Tecnoturbines and Sendekia has received from the European Commission a grant of €1m to create and launch a new 35% more efficient hydraulic turbine.
The award is part of the Horizon 2020 (H2020) programme, a European initiative aimed at promoting innovation and sustainability.
The H2020 contribution means the Tecnoturbines and Sendekia project has a total budget of €1.5m.
Technoturbines has a 60% stake and will coordinate the project.
Tecnoturbines founder Jaime Lledó said: “Our proposal involves developing a turbine that produces electricity in variable hydraulic conditions in terms of flow and pressure, which is a very common scenario due to the seasonal nature of the water resources available.
“Just 6% of the applications submitted have been awarded a grant, which endorses the viability and potential of our project.”
