GE Renewable Energy has signed a deal with Khao Kor Wind Power Company to supply turbines to a new 60MW wind farm in Thailand.
The Khao Kor wind farm is in Petchaboon in northern Thailand and GE will supply 24 of their 2.5-120 wind turbines.
Each turbine uses a 120 metre rotor diameter to give 2.5MW of power per unit and the turbine model specialises in increasing power yields for low-to-medium wind speed regions, similar to expected conditions at the Khao Kor wind farm.
“This region has huge potential for wind power, and our technology is competitive, reliable and innovative,” said GE general manager Peter Cowling.
“GE is committed to supporting local developers in Thailand, and we hope to continue collaborating with regional customers to build additional wind power capacity in the future.”
Thailand aims to increase the share of renewable electricity in its total electricity mix from about 9.87% in 2014 to 20% by 2036.
“The Khao Kor wind farm will be GE’s first wind facility in the country,” said GE Thailand President Kovit Kantapasara. “GE is proud to help Thailand change its energy mix and reach its renewable energy goals.”
