Wave energy developer AW Energy and Mexican renewables company ENAL have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop, design and deploy a 10MW wave farm of the Pacific coast of Mexico.
AW Energy said the wave farm will be the first in operation in the Americas as well as one of the largest wave farms in the world.
AW Energy chief executive officer John Liljelund said: “I am highly pleased to see that we are making progress on various fronts and with the Mexican agreement now extend our reach of commercial development to eight countries globally.
“While I am excited by the opportunity this brings to AW Energy as a technology developer, I am equally thrilled that we are now kick-starting the development of wholly new industry in Mexico and the Americas.”
ENAL CEO Gerardo Hiriart said the project could be expanded to other Latin American countries.
