Australian company Stonehenge Metals is to be renamed Protean Wave Energy and is also to increase its cooperation agreement with Californian university Cal Poly.
Under the agreement, the company will partner with university to deploy a staged ocean wave energy and energy storage micro-grid project at the 3000 foot long Cal Poly Research Pier at Avila Beach.
The programme will start next year with the temporary deployment of the first Protean wave energy converter in the ocean.
The project aims to test the sea-worthiness of the converter and its environmental impact.
The deal is an addendum to a memorandum of understanding with Cal Poly already agreed in June.
