Crews are nearing the finish line at a 9.2MW municipal wind project in Nova Scotia, located on Canada’s Atlantic coast.
The towns of Berwick, Antigonish and Mahone Bay teamed up to create the Alternative Resource Energy Authority and build a wind project to serve local residents.
AREA commissioned Minas Energy to handle development and manage construction of the Ellershouse wind farm, which employs four Enercon E-92 2.3MW turbines.
“Major construction has ended and the turbines are now being individually connected to the grid,” Minas energy project coordinator Kris MacLellan told reNEWS.
“Two turbines are spinning, with two on schedule to begin spinning in the coming weeks.”
Commercial operation of the distribution-connected scheme is expected to begin in December. A three-turbine second phase has received provincial approval and could be constructed at a later date.
