A minimum carbon floor price needs to be set by global leaders when they meet for the COP 21 UN climate change meeting next month.
EDF Energies Nouvelles chief executive Antoine Cahuzac told the EWEAc in Paris this afternoon that the “unprecedented negotiations” will need “a lot of ambition, patience and time”.
He said: “A lot of discussions will need to take place, at different levels, and there is only a specific amount of time to do them in.
“One thing that is an obvious answer to promoting the industry is setting a minimum price for the carbon floor for around Europe. This is one of the first things that come to mind.”
Vestas chief executive Anders Runevad added that lowering the LCOE will be a main topic of debate for all those around the table from 30 November to 11 December.
“For the industry and for Vestas ourselves, that is a fundamental part of the proceedings. We cannot flourish if we do not lower costs. It is fundamental to our future.
“Driving down the costs will enable us to get further political support. It is a key enabler to us growing.”
He added that onshore wind has to be the main technology supported by global leaders.
“Wind power makes economic sense. Wind power is very feasible, there is no fuel cost, it is reliable.
“Onshore wield is already in the same range as coal and gas. This is the primary reason for wind becoming the strong player.
“It is clean, readily available and carbon free. It is affordable and we also address the concern of energy security.”
