Seacat Services has ordered up to four new DNV GL class-certified vessels with local boat builder South Boats IoW.
The next generation 23-metre and 27-metre catamarans have been specifically designed to cater for the changing needs of European offshore wind projects.
They are Seacat Freedom (23m), Seacat Enterprise (27m), Seacat Liberty (23m) and Seacat Weatherly (27m) and are scheduled for launch at avrious points throughout 2016 and 2017.
The company said in established markets, such as the UK and Germany, larger, deep-water projects are starting construction, and the latest 27-metre vessel, Seacat Enterprise, will provide a new platform to serve these projects.
It will be able to carry four 20 foot containers, or a combination of sizes, in addition to its regular complement of 24 wind farm personnel. Furthermore, with 40,000 litres of fuel available, Seacat Enterprise will be able to operate for extended periods offshore.
The accompany added that Seacat Mischief is currently on sea trials and Seacat Magic ispreparing to join Seacat Services’ operational fleet in February 2016.
Seacat Services managing director Ian Baylis said: “Despite financial challenges to established offshore markets, round three projects are still set to go ahead, and these will require greater capability and flexibility from support vessels.
“Our latest order, which includes an all new design 27m vessel, will help Seacat Services prepare for the needs of these projects.”
