Canadian tidal joint venture Cape Sharp Tidal has delayed installation of two 2MW OpenHydro turbines at Nova Scotia’s Bay of Fundy until the spring after turbine manufacturing fell behind schedule.
Cape Sharp, a venture between Irish-based turbine manufacturer and Halfiax, Nova Scotia utility Emera, said the delay meant it is now too late to deploy the Open-Centre turbines before winter.
The original plan was to install one turbine this autumn and the other in the spring at Nova Scotia’s Minas Passage.
Both turbines and an installation barge are being fabricated by local contractor Aecon. The first turbine and barge are said to be nearing completion while the second device is less advanced.
