Secretary of State Amber Rudd has revealed an announcement on the next round of the Contracts for Difference mechanism will be made “by Christmas”.
The Energy Secretary is currently appearing before the Energy and Climate Change Committee where she made the statement that all will be made clear on the next auction round before the end of 2015.
She also stated that she anticipates a successor to the Green Deal by early 2016.
Rudd was questioned on reports this morning that the UK is on track to miss legally binding 2020 targets.
She said she has not “misled” Parliament – insisting she is “committing to making the policy changes required to meet targets”.
She added that the UK remains signed up to the 15% renewable target and said her comments in Parliament referred to a 30% share of renewables in the power sector.
Rudd added she is “committed” and has hopes the target can be met but said the “right policies are not in place” for renewable heat and transport, which is why she wrote her letter of concern to fellow colleagues.
