RES has submitted a planning application for the 5MW Jack’s Lane solar farm in north-west Norfolk.
The project is proposed to be built to the south west of RES’ recently constructed 15MW Jack’s Lane wind farm.
If planning consent is granted by Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council, the solar plant will also provide community benefits to the value of £5000 per MW installed once it becomes operational.
The planning authority has now begun a further consultation process with the local community and interested parties.
A decision is expected in January 2016.
RES solar developer for Jack’s Lane solar farm Eliot Davies said: “Through our detailed studies and public consultation we have been able to design an ideal solar farm site which will make a valuable contribution to the country’s renewable energy targets whilst minimising environmental and visual impacts.
“At our public exhibition in April, we were encouraged to receive positive feedback which showed 69% of attendees to be in favour of using solar energy to generate electricity and 51% to be neutral or supportive of this proposal specifically.
“Those who came to speak with us also made a number of suggestions on how they would like to see their community benefitting from the presence of the solar farm, and we look forward to taking forward these ideas to find the most suitable solution should the planning committee agree with the general public and approve our scheme.”
