Atkins has appointed Andy Thompson as its new delivery director for offshore wind.
In the role, Thompson (pictured) will be responsible for the company’s entire offshore wind portfolio, which covers concept design and studies, detailed design and asset management services.
It also includes four contracts with Dong Energy at offshore wind farms across the UK, turbine jacket design at the Beatrice offshore wind farm in Scotland, and the transportation concept design for Statoil’s Hywind project.
Thompson was previously involved in Atkins’ nuclear business, where he was responsible for growth outside of the UK across Europe, Asia and Africa, and directing major projects and multi-national joint ventures.
He said: “Offshore wind is a core part of the power business and one where we have strength and depth in expertise and experience.
“I’m looking forward to taking on this role at such an exciting time for the business.”
Atkins power and renewables managing director Phil Malem said: “We’re excited to welcome Andy to the team, and his previous roles in both nuclear and power will mean we can draw on his extensive experience of developing new growth opportunities and delivering outstanding work that really makes a difference for our clients.”
