A fire broke out early on Saturday morning on a service operation vessel on duty for Dong Energy’s 312MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
Two crew and 12 passengers were on board the 21-metre vessel Beaumaris Bay, which is operated by Turbine Transfer, when the fire broke out in one of the vessel’s two machine rooms at 3:20am.
No one was hurt by the incident.
The vessel was on its way from the wind farm to its base port in Norddeich.
The crew made an emergency call, but managed to control the fire.
Germany’s search and rescue service vessel Bernhard Gruben arrived about 12 minutes later and escorted Beaumaris Bay to Norddeich from near the island of Norderney.
