Acta Marine and CIG Shipbuilding have christened the offshore wind build support vessel Acta Orion at a ceremony at the port of Harlingen in the Netherlands.
The so-called ‘walk-to-work’ vessel is 108 metres in length, with a beam of 16 metres. The DP2 vessel has 80 beds, a large cargo deck and a cargo hold with tween deck providing over 1250 metres squared of space.
It will be fitted with active motion-compensated personnel transfer gangway to permit the transfer of work crews and cargo packages.
Following delivery in mid-November the vessel will start work on the Gemini offshore wind farms off the Dutch coast. Its role will be to support work crews to platforms and foundations in order to prepare for submarine cable pull-in terminations.
The ship will also provide accommodation and be a support base for crew transfer vessels working on the 600MW project. It can also support the erection and maintenance of wind turbines, if required.
Acta Marine managing director Rob Boer said: “With Acta Orion our company takes a big step forward in the offshore wind industry.
“Together with the 10 crew transfer vessels we acquired earlier this year, we are now able to offer a broad range of marine services to our clients in this growing market.”
