AES Corp and National Electric Company of Jordan have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a 20MW battery energy storage system in the Middle Eastern country.
The project aims to contribute to reducing the cost of integrating renewable energy into the Jordanian grid.
The system will be located in Al Manakhar in the Amman East region and will take a year to start operations from its final approval.
The MoU was signed by the AES Europe president Julian Nebreda and the vice-president and market business leader for Jordan Meftaur Rahman and the NEPCO chief executive officer Abdul Fattah Al Dardadkah.
The Energy Minister of Jordan Ibrahim Saif and the Ambassador of the USA Alice Wells also attended the signing ceremony.
