UK company JDR has extended its capacity at PD Ports in Hartlepool by adding warehouses to increase its manufacturing and storage capabilities.
The warehouses will now house a state-of-the-art, high-capacity horizontal helix lay-up machine to manufacture umbilicals and provide extra storage space for 6000 metric tonnes of equipment.
JDR has been a tenant at the Port of Hartlepool since 2008 when it bought 97,000 square foot of warehouse space. It now owns three adjoining warehouses and its total capacity is over 280,000 square feet.
This will support its business in connecting the global offshore energy industry and its growth in the oil and gas and renewables sectors.
JDR chief executive David Currie said: “We are delighted to be growing our footprint and manufacturing capabilities at Hartlepool. Crucially, this investment will enable JDR to offer unrivalled technical expertise to design, test and deliver the next generation of subsea technology.”
JDR chief officer Richard Turner said: “After the initial investment in our facility in Hartlepool in 2008, we have continued to invest incrementally in the site which is now a recognised world-wide centre of excellence for the design and manufacture of subsea power cables and umbilicals.”
PD Ports managing director Jerry Hopkinson said: “We are pleased to see PD Ports’ relationship with JDR continue through the growth of its world-class manufacturing facilities in Hartlepool.”
