The King of Spain Felipe VI will attend the WindEurope Annual conference in Bilbao, Spain.
He will open the event on Tuesday 5 April before touring the exhibition and meeting with key players in the wind energy industry and representatives of governments around Europe, conference organiser WindEurope said.
WindEurope 2022 will run from 5-7 April with about 8000 people attending and more than 330 companies exhibiting.
WindEurope said the event comes at a decisive moment for energy in Europe.
“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has upended the energy system. Europe is pursuing a new energy policy: less dependence on imported fossil fuels; and an accelerated transition to renewables,” the trade group said.
It added: “The EU now wants wind energy to grow from 190GW today to 480GW by 2030.
“The Bilbao event will focus on how to deliver this: tackling the barriers that need to be overcome for example, around permitting, but also highlighting the opportunities, notably for jobs and communities.”
Ministers and policy-makers from around Europe will be taking part, including the Director-General for Energy in the EU Commission and Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister, Teresa Ribera.
