The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) has received several bids for the rights to develop the 700MW Hollandse Kust North offshore wind zone off the Dutch coast.
Bidding in the subsidy-free auction closed on 30 April and RVO will now assess the applications and announce the winner within 13 weeks.
Danish developer Orsted has confirmed that it has submitted a “strong bid with a high degree of risk mitigation”.
However, Vattenfall did not take part, citing uncertainty over energy prices driven by the Covid-19 pandemic as the reason.
German company EnBW also sat out the tender, but gave no reason for its decision.
Hollandse Kust North will account for about 2.5% of the total electricity consumption in the Netherlands when built, RVO said.
The tender is the fifth in a series that will see around 11GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030, it said.
In previous auctions, Orsted won the rights to develop the Borssele zone, while Vattenfall was successful in securing the rights to the Hollands Kust South zone.
