Sixteen shortlisted projects have submitted final bids for a €3m scientific research programme backed by the EU to help understand the environmental impacts of offshore wind farms.
The study will be carried out at Vattenfall’s 92.4MW Aberdeen Bay offshore wind farm off the coast of Scotland.
Shortlisted projects include analysis of the distribution and movement of different bird, mammal and fish species, examining the effects of offshore wind on the environment and societies and studies on geology.
A panel made up of Vattenfall officials, scientists, environmental agencies and the Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group shortlisted the 16 projects from almost 100 applications.
The panel is expected to announce the successful projects by the end of the year.
