Adwen has completed installation of its AD8-180 offshore wind turbine prototype in Bremerhaven in Germany.
The manufacturer is now set to start the final testing phase for the turbine, which is installed on a former airfield.
The 8MW machine, now owned by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, is scheduled to enter serial production in 2018.
The AD 8-180 has been selected for three projects totalling 1.5 GW off the coast of France.
Initial commercial deployment is scheduled at Iberdrola and RES’s 496MW St Brieuc wind farm off France.
The two other projects are the 500MW Dieppe Le Tréport and 500MW Yeu Noirmoutier wind farms.
