The management and works councils at former offshore turbine manufacturer Adwen have agreed a reconciliation of interests and social plan as part of the reorganisation of the company.
The reconciliation of interests includes preserving service operations and 211 jobs in Bremerhaven, Germany, as previously communicated.
Adwen’s reorganisation will, however, result in the closure of the production and repair plant in Bremen and Emden by September 2020.
A total of 166 jobs will be cut in a socially responsible manner at the sites, the company added.
The social plan includes a volunteer programme for employees with appropriate compensation payments for transition into new jobs and a transfer company.
The measures will be implemented gradually and are to be completed by September 2020.
Restructuring efforts and job cuts are part of a plan announced by parent company Siemens Gamesa last year and now approved by social partners.
“In recent months, we have worked intensively with the works council to provide employees with clarity as quickly as possible and to provide the best possible support to those affected by the transition to new employment,” said Carsten König, managing director of Adwen.
Affected staff can be remain in the transfer company for a maximum of 12 months after leaving Adwen, where they will receive professional training to support them in finding new jobs and employment.
Adwen has cited overcapacities and the increasing cost pressure in the wind industry as reasons for its reorganisation, with a focus on servicing its existing installed turbines.
