Vattenfall, EWE and RWE have launched the qualification phase in the tender for the decommissioning of 60MW Alpha Ventus offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
The scope of the contract, estimated at €50m, will include the removal of all 12 foundations, recovery of inter-array subsea cables, dismantling of the offshore substation (topside & foundation) and recycling of all components.
The works are expected to commence from 2027 onwards, although the start date could shift to 2028.
Commissioned in April 2010 and located about 45 kilometres north of the island of Borkum, Alpha Ventus is Germany’s first and oldest offshore wind farm.
The project features six Adwen M5000 and six Senvion 5MW turbines installed on two different foundation types.
The wind farm’s owners – RWE, EWE, and Vattenfall – confirmed plans earlier this year to retire the pioneering project after more than a decade of operation.
