Arup, working with Offshore Design Engineering Limited (ODE), has secured the role of owner’s engineer on a 220MW offshore wind project off South Korea.
The team has been commissioned by Hyundai Engineering Corporation for Korea Wind Energy’s Anmado project, off South Jeolla.
The project is one of the initial offshore wind projects to support the country’s energy plan, released in 2017, which is targeting a 20% share of renewables in the country’s electricity supply by 2030 and 30-35% by 2040.
The Arup, ODE team will assess the local conditions to determine the most appropriate foundation system, turbine technology and site layout for the chosen site in order to facilitate the early project planning works.
“We’re excited to be able to contribute our expertise to the project, drawing upon our combined experiences for the development of offshore wind farms in the UK, Europe, Japan, Vietnam and Taiwan.
“We look forward to engaging with the Korean offshore wind industry to utilise these skills,” said Peter Thompson, director and East Asia Energy Leader, at Arup.
ODE renewables head David Robertson added: “With extensive experience of the offshore wind industry globally and regionally, we are delighted to be working in partnership with Arup to support Wind Energy Co in the development of the Anmado offshore wind farm.
“This project will play an important role in the Korean offshore wind power generation. It is an exciting opportunity and we are proud to be a key part of it.”
