Project partners Atkins and Pilot Offshore have filed to build a 48MW floating wind demonstrator off the coast of Aberdeenshire.
Paperwork for the Kincardine wind farm’s eight 6MW turbines was lodged with Scottish officials this month and will ultimately be determined by ministers.
The project will feature semi-submersible floating foundations “such as the WindFloat prototype designed by Principle Power”.
If consented, Kincardine will be built around 50km south of Statoil’s 30MW Hywind Scotland demonstrator. Waters are between 60 and 80 metres deep some 15km from shore.
Power will be exported to shore via twin 33kV export cables at Redmoss in Aberdeen.
