PGE has secured an environmental permit from the Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Gdańsk for the 900MW Baltica 1 site off Poland, qualifying the offshore wind project to participate in the 17 December auction.
PGE said the ruling marks progress toward its goal of at least 4GW of offshore wind by 2035.
“This decision allows us to submit the project to the offshore auction planned for this year,” said PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna president Dariusz Marzec.
“This is a clear signal to the market that the development of offshore wind energy in Poland is gaining momentum, and domestic companies have a real opportunity to actively participate in this process,” he said.
PGE Baltica conducted extensive marine studies to minimise environmental impacts during construction and operation. The work was carried out by Gdynia Maritime University and MEWO.
Baltica 1 is located about 80km off Władysławowo in the Central Bank area and has a location permit and grid connection agreement.
If it wins a contract for difference in December, commissioning is planned by the end of 2032.
