Buckie has been selected as a contingency port for operations and maintenance at the 588MW Beatrice wind farm in the Moray Firth off the coast of Scotland.
The port (pictured) is located between Inverness and Fraserburgh and will be used when the project’s normal Wick O&M base is hit by poor weather or in the event of emergencies.
Additional harbour capacity and marine co-ordination work will also be provided at Buckie.
The contract will require upgrades to onshore infrastructure in the port with the former fishmarket building expected to be made available for office space.
Chairman of the Moray Economic Partnership John Cowe said: “As well as bringing in direct revenue in the lease of buildings and berths, this will also create a use for the buildings and hopefully support to the local area in indirect jobs in accommodation and contractors. It will also demonstrate to the shipping community what a valuable asset Buckie harbour is.”
Developers SSE (40%), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (35%) and SDIC Power of China (25%) announced a positive final investment decision for the 84-turbine, £2.6bn build earlier this week.
