UK outfit 6 Alpha Associates is managing the unexploded ordnance (UXO) risks at SSE’s 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm in the Moray Firth.
The company said the work is geared towards issuing a final UXO safety clearance certificate, which will confirm that the threat to installation activity presented by UXO has been reduced to as low as is reasonably practicable.
It was commissioned to advise on the best UXO risk mitigation protocol to adopt, and has delivered a desktop threat and assessment to determine the likely presence of UXO on the project site.
When the prospective UXO threat had been identified, 6 Alpha designed a subsea survey in order to detect and to define potential UXO.
The company is working with project partners Fugro and Boskalis to process raw survey data in order to ensure that only the most likely “ferrous anomalies” that might be considered as targets of interest are investigated.
