The UK government has signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korean company SeAH Steel for the development of a monopile fabrication facility in Britain.
UK ambassador Simon Smith inked the agreement with the Asian company’s chief executive Nam Hyeong-Geun last week.
The MoU covers the development of a “world-class” facility at an as-yet unknown location.
There is currently no fabrication facility to produce monopiles in the UK.
Smith said: “I look forward to further strengthening the partnership between the two countries in the field of clean energy.”
Local media reports in South Korea suggested SeAH will set up the facility in 2023 with the aim of selling 100 monopiles per year for the local offshore wind market.
BEIS has been contacted for comment.
