German authorities have kicked off the procedure for updating the offshore wind area development plan.
Federal maritime and hydrographic agency BSH has published a new blueprint that shows additional areas in the North and Baltic seas.
The zones will support the country’s recently-upgraded 30GW by 2030 target.
The area development plan defines, among other things, the areas and grid connections for the further expansion of offshore wind energy.
The basis of the update introduced today is the spatial planning plan 2021 for the German exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the North Sea and Baltic Sea. This came into force on 1 September 2021 after extensive official and public participation.
A strategic environmental assessment is also carried out as part of the updating of the area development plan.
Authorities and the public can comment on the draft documents until 18 January 2022.
“The spatial plan shows priority and reservation areas for offshore wind energy. The preliminary draft represents the intended specifications for areas in these areas and the output that is likely to be installed on them,” said the BSH.
