The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has asked a federal court to stall a lawsuit against the construction permit for Iberdrola’s 2600MW New England Wind offshore wind project off the coast of Massachusetts.
BOEM wants the lawsuit stalled while the it reconsiders the permits for New England Wind, following the directive from President Donald Trump.
BOEM signalled its in intent to review the permits back in September, and the bureau’s Acting Director Matthew Giacona told that court that the agency “may have failed to account for all the impacts that New England Wind Projects 1 and 2 may cause” when it issued the permits in 2024.
New England Wind is the latest in a series of US offshore projects to come under attack by the Trump administration.
Iberdrola’s New England Wind has an agreement with the state of Massachusetts for 791MW, while BOEM’s constructions and operations plan approved the project for a full 2.6GW.
